Leslie Griesdorf’s enthusiasm for World War II history extends to the part Canada played in the conflict. Canadian facilities trained 130,000 Allied pilots and the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division landed on D-Day. A lasting effect was the break between Francophiles and Anglophiles in Canada caused by a conscription crisis in 1944, a continuation of a similar crisis and similar effect in 1917 caused by World War I.
